Classic Ford team: Simon Holmes – staff writer

I’m the newest addition to the Classic Ford team having been here for a few months, and in that time I’ve been slowly working on my project – a Mk1 Fiesta.

It’s been my pride and joy as well as the source of much heartache and expense over the time I’ve had her, but it’s finally there’s an end in sight. The original engine has made way for a big spec Zetec with steel rods, forged pistons and an ST170 head. If that wasn’t enough there’s the turbo and laughing gas on top of that for good measure.

Also there are various adjustable suspension components and a Mondeo gearbox conversion as well as some wide arches with a set of colour coded Capri ‘pots to fill them nicely. Then to finish it off there’s a white and contrasting green paint scheme with some tinted crystal headlights and matching indicators.

It’s being built mainly for the strip hence why it’s gutted and there’s more to come out yet but it will be street legal. There’s not that much left to do as all the big things are out the way, leaving only the more ‘niggily’, and annoyingly time consuming issues left to sort…
