Get Carter Car Park Demolished
Iconic classic Ford film location is being knocked down.
It’s been threatened for years, but the Trinity Square multi-story car park in Gateshead, made famous by the ’70s gangster flick, Get Carter, starring Michael Caine and a Mk2 Cortina, has finally begun to be pulled down as part of the town’s redevelopment.
The car park became a part of film folklore when it was used in the cult gangster flick, released in March 1971.
It was the place where Jack Carter, played by Michael Caine, threw local businessman Cliff Brumby (Alf Roberts in Coronation Street!), played by Bryan Mosely, off one of the top levels before leaving in Mk2 Cortina to avenge the death of his brother.
In 2003 we were lucky enough to be able to gain access to the usually-closed upper levels of the car park to re-enact scenes from the film using our own Mk2 — these images come from the original feature.
To see images of the car park as it is now, check out the excellent www.getcartertour.co.uk website.
