once ive got things sorted ill look at rerouting the top heater feed pipe and also making up a gulley plate cover to sit over the carb intermediate plate and make thinkgs look all smooth. maybe with slightly raised edges to hide the vacume pipes under too.....dunno yet but itll need to look smooth whatever it takes.
got the idea from a 3.9 rv8 's inlet manifold gasket i had for the car ages ago.

If it works, use it.

Looking good, Rich (the engine bay, and the BMX!)

went to the hot rod swap meet yesterday and came home with a facet fuel pump,a pair of braided oil lines and a real long cooling rad.
after giving it some thought ill be coiling copper tubing along the turbo hard pipe and running water through it vai an electric pump and through the front mounted rad.over the top barided hoses draped accross the front valence is likely........................................

Snuk home early today so hid in the garage.got the turbo all loose and aimed all the separate sections so it was all clear of obstructions.the turbo is now on the manifold and just needs tightening.I took the fuel pump off too and oiked the shaft out.
I went out and bought the proper plate from tickover too..I'm not happy with the recently bought oil lines as I have been warned that too much oil feed slows the turbo apparently.the rocker valve thing will be replaced with a small breather unless anyone says different.
very tight space wise and ill need to reroute the heater top feed somnehow. the leccie pump has been replaced and will sit on top of the chassis rail while the fuel lines will be routed through from the inner wing behind the headlight and up away from the turbo area

turns out the carb is rover sd1 fitment so im guessing its of the 2.6 as the 3.5 used a pair of the su's.
i may send it away for a refurb closer to the finish for piece of mind too
steve from the granada site has kindly posted me directions of what goes where in the su too so it should all be reasonably straight forward........................................... ............

this arrived yesterday so ill be slapping that on when the rear gets put on ramps .
should look real sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet when im towing the retro folding caravan to shows.
judging by the height i recon itll sit real nice behind the car.
van only took 6 days work from the day of purchase to first use all painted and sorted
dunno where the idea for the colour came from though.....................

thanks again rob, heater pipe now redirected where it was meant to be
wont need to meddle with that now.
just realised that now the carb take off plates gone the hard pipe is real low and the bolts are too high. ill just stick the comosite looking one back beteween the pipe and inlet and see if thats better.
got some nice big jubilee clips from work and some nice bolts too, sadly im going to need to vist the nut and bolt shop to get some better ones :|
located a compressor cooling rad at work which may suit the pipe cooler idea so ill see if its removable.
gonna see if i can have an evening of tinkering this week, really need to be making more progress and a couple of hours at the weekend isnt enough.
may have located a complete dash so i can vinyl coat it to suit. interior should just be a straight swap over and teh old seats will get moved into the loft for safe keeping.
i did find a full set of door seals too so they may be dyed along with the carpet.

got the rear up on ramps yesterday would be foolish to try and get the fuel pump to drag the fuel all the way up from the rear at the angle the car was plus itll make the tow bar fitting easier too
not as high as id i like but up in the air regardless. downpipe snout almost meets the first box so i may try to use that......and only that as an exhaust. its all trial and error so itll either be fine or ill have to find an alternative.
shoulda really done more research before starting this but at some point ill be able to look back and say "hell yeah, i made this".
got the crossover zorst section on me today so will see if i can blag an olive and a couplke of clamps for a fiver out the local qwik fit.
need some "not falling off " nuts too so im packing an exhaust stud as well to try and get that sorted.
recon itll only take a couple of hours to tighten the manifold and get teh bypass pipe connected.that just leaves the oil lines (which ill buy a new pair) and some fuelling, some wires and hopefully itll be almost ready to test.
obviously with me being a maverick mechanic ill get some grown ups to double check what ive done before turning any keys........just in case
decided ill try to get the rear seat recovered to match the fronts instead of rear buckets,i recon itll look much

after trapsing around every car parts and exhaust place in the area and getting absolutley nowhere i had a couple of ideas.
ive tried emailing janspeed................who are so far away from the company that built the set up 30 years ago youd think they were a different company
so then.......i remembered that ive been buying parts for my car form Southern Motor Factors for years now and theyve never once let me down.
a quick call and a vague description on my count as to the kind of part i was looking for and i heard the magic words.....
"dunno if weve got anything that'll work but your welcome to come down and look through the stuff in the warehouse to see if you can find something suitable"
left work, grabbed the kids from school and went straight there.
the guy from the phone call went through one pile of stock while i pilfferred through the boxes on the wall.
after a bit of "is this what you want?" and " what about something like this?" the guy produced just the thing
dunno what its off but ive kept the pack and as it only cost £1 ill get a few more as spares incase i need to ever change something.
thats another item off the "where the hell will i get something that fits this part" list.
massive thanks once again to these guys, they always go the extra mile to find the hard to get parts you need.
www.smfuk.com/
heres the part i was after

had a few mins yesterday so had a meddle
righty then , turns out the threads on the turbo part for the su are a really poxy old type. had to rummage through all my "old nut and bolt" boxes . luckily i managed to unscrew one from the tubby to use as a tester.
i also found some really heavy and strong spacers which ill use to hold the hard pipe down on the manifold seeing as the thread isnt full length.
while i was at it i added a new vacume hose,no red stuff, just plain old black but itll look nicer i think.
the su bolts have those grippy crinkle washers on them to stop any undoing while its running
going to try and lose all the wiring too while im playing, really want an empty engine bay now
its a real learning curve all this and i recon itll be sorted in the next 20 years or so..................its becoming a "why the hell did i think i could do this???" project

whilst repairing a generator at work i discovered some plug lead ends that sit at 90 degrees
they simply screw onto the ht lead................and seeing as the generator uses bpr6es plugs, just like the mk2 i thought ill be needing a pair of them.
soon as i got home they were fitted. all the orange leads are gone and ive started losing ugly wiring. the black tape isnt for keeps, ill get some old school fabric tape in black when im happy .
really wanting a barron bay now so all the wiring will be extended and lost here and there.
anyway, heres the angled lead ends, much further away from the turbo area and the leads run tflush along the rockers too.
the bracket on the pas pump will be removed too now the heater hos is where it should have been

toyotas off to be "magic'd" today and isnt really much use so ive dropped the hooligan off round his mates for the day and phoebe has her mate round..........
much as i'd like to watch "aquamarine the mermaid" or whatevers its called i grabbed the opportunity to play cars.
got the front pipe tightened on the turbo and also got the front pipes off.
theyre in good nick so ill keep them.
i found some suitable nuts and bolts and after oiking the oil filter off.....and smacking my elbow really hard PANIC i managed to get teh crossover pipe in place.
its a real snug fit and after lining stuff up and then the adjusting the bolts real slow it site in what looks like the right place now.i still need to replace one bottom bellhousing bolt though, need to get a clamp on the crossover pipe to on the drivers side to clamp it tight.
i fitted the starter too as there isnt a chance of doing that after the pipe was fitted.
i cant see if the compression joint is in properly but will find out the day its all fired up.
i did the last manifold bolt too just incase someone remembers it needed doing
heres some pics

Thanks mate,no idea what I'm doing but by offerring stuff up you soon see what needs moving etc or whats gonna foul on stuff.I just hope the result at the end is worth it.my new dash and centre console was picked up yesterday, its brown but not for long.gonna be all black and red with black carpets. Spending loadsa time on the car but everything is slowly materialising at a steady pace.its actually an interesting experience and I just hope I'm right that no one else has a suck thru turbo Granada in the UK.......I'd hate to be the same as someone else lol.
Always like to be different me
Will be trying it up the quarter mile when its set up too, won't be amazing anyone but if I can get a sub 16 sec run ill be happy.

anyone know what sort/style of exhaust box ill be needing??? got to be shallow.
ive been told i could probably get away with no box and just running the pipe out the side but
i wouldnt want to do that would i....: D
i may well run the pipe (after the box) out in front of the rear wheel through a long shallow rectangle pipe though.
i also need to locate or source a pair of really long throttle cables??? any ideas??
worse case scenario i could (and to be honest i wouldnt mind) run through the bulkhead and bolt the choke one to the passenger side of the new centre console, its not like itd be in my way.

had loadsa kids round today so had to wait tilll they all went home...............................but when they did the carrier bag of carlsberg followed me to the garage.
the carrot shaped metal drill bit was fitted and we were off. two inner wing holes now reside in the inner wings for the fuel lines in and out.
the wirings been re-routed through the bulkhead or if surplus, cut out. tapes gone and been replaced with cable ties and the fuel pumps now properly mounted. making real progress now..........even if it is now one in the morning.
its not just "built not bought",its built at stupid times of the day when work is possible......................................

ugly wires now hidden, duraspark unit hidden, boost gauge feed rerouted as was the oil pressure gaure feed.
working on a basic empty engine bay

will be all filled and tidied soon and the whole bay will be satin'd black like the old muscle cars were back in the day.the ally shield that goes over the top will more than likely be chequered .ill take the scuttle panel off and re-route as much as possible behind that too, really want the bay as empty as safely possible.
