The world-famous Brighton Speed Trials is under threat again. A new petition has been launched to help prevent the seafront Madeira Drive, where the Trails takes place, being closed permanently to vehicles .
Brighton & Hove Council closed Madeira Drive back in April to allow people to use it for exercise during the lockdown but some councillors want this to be extended until the end of the year ahead of a review, and some are lobbying to ban all motor vehicles permanently. Brighton & Hove Motor Club who organise the Brighton Speed Trials fear this would mean the end of the trials and other historic motoring events.
Almost 10,000 people have signed the petition so far, which can be found here.
