On the search for a set of rims for your classic Ford? Here’s how to check used wheels in five easy steps.
Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD) is the stud measurement of the wheels measured in a circle (European Ford is 4×108 mm.
Rim width is the measurement in inches between the inside faces of the wheel. This one’s 7 inches wide.
Offset is measured two ways (this is the backspacing method). The ET system determines the how far the hub mounting face is away from the centre line of the wheel.
Check the seating for the wheelnuts. Some are tapered, others square shouldered, sleeve nuts or bolts.
Kerbing can be fixed if not too deep but hard whacks may buckle the wheel — it really needs checking with a run-out dial gauge.
